Terry Shanley, Chief Executive Officer

Terry Shanley was born in North Bend, spent his high school years in Gold Beach, and now resides in Portland. He’s long been involved in athletics, earning a scholarship to the University of Oregon where he majored in Psychology. He switched his focus to Education for a brief period until the school lost accreditation. Then, due to a significant change in family, he left school to embark on his own journey.

He balanced a new sales career with world travel on the United States Greco Wrestling team, but the 1980 boycott of the Olympic Games prevented his participation. Terry re-focused his competitive drive toward commercial development and management, resulting in a 24-year career.

Through his work with Shanley Properties LLC, Cushman & Wakefield and others, Terry has developed properties around Portland, increased market share and revenues, and created more collaborative internal cultures. However his true joy comes from helping others.

For 12 years Terry has been an active leader in the nonprofit sector. He’s lobbied in Washington D.C. on behalf of the American Cancer Society, chaired committees for Relay for Life, and grossed record funds for the Providence Cancer Center as chair of its annual luncheon.

Terry has also received numerous philanthropy awards including the prestigious International Community Service Award from Cushman & Wakefield and the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Commercial Association of Realtors, and was recognized by the American Cancer Society as Volunteer of the Year.

He is pleased to be part of the SMART team: “The organization has made great progress toward building brighter futures for Oregonians big and small, and I’m thrilled to help further its vision.”

Terry, his wife Della, and two daughters reside in Portland.
