SMART Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Oregon Reads Aloud
During the 2016-17 school year, SMART will celebrate 25 years of providing reading support and books to Oregon children. That’s a milestone worth celebrating!
Since 1992, SMART has connected more than 118,000 community volunteers with over 188,000 students across Oregon for one-on-one reading support, and given children 2.4 million books to take home and keep.
Oregon Reads Aloud is SMART’s statewide campaign celebrating the importance of getting kids excited and motivated about reading. It is themed after the title of our very own children’s book, a tribute to our life’s work empowering Oregon children to read and succeed.
The book is a compilation of 25 read-aloud stories written and illustrated by Oregon authors and illustrators. Both the campaign and book aim to bring attention to the importance of reading engagement and motivation in a child’s literacy development, and to SMART’s work inspiring lifelong readers and learners.
