Investments in early childhood literacy are essential to the health and vitality of local communities

Fundamentally, SMART is built upon community engagement. Since 1992, SMART has been a catalyst for engaging community members, businesses, supporters and school partners to empower Oregon’s children through reading. Our public school partners welcome SMART volunteers into their schools to read one-on-one with students. Through this effort, we expose thousands of community members to the public education system each week as they generously contribute their time and resources to support students in reading success. Corporation and foundation partners throughout the state support SMART through volunteerism and financial contributions. Together, we are improving children’s lives and creating stronger Oregon communities.
