Bringing SMART to Your Community
The SMART Kit is a self-contained tool kit designed to guide a community and school to jointly create and run a successful SMART program. The Kit provides steps to develop the needed partners and resources. It details the processes of setting up the SMART room, recruiting volunteers, scheduling student/volunteer pairs and running a smooth program.
A local Leadership Committee, consisting of school and community members, provides the stability and continuity to assure a long-lasting viable program. The committee does the local fundraising necessary to license the SMART Kit program and pay for a school coordinator, if a volunteer coordinator is not available. The community and school take the full responsibility of implementing the program. As part of the SMART Kit, communities receive the materials, books, training and technical assistance to run a successful program. A SMART manager conducts periodic site visits to assess program quality and safety, while providing on-going support.
