If you love reading, than SMART is for you!
A SMART volunteer reads one-on-one with two elementary-age children in need of literacy support. Your task? To encourage a love of reading and books.
Each week for seven months*, you’ll read with each child for 30 minutes each (totaling an hour). One-on-one attention helps your SMART students develop an interest in books and reading that leads to greater academic success. It’s that simple. And it works.
Apply online today! You can make a difference in a child’s life.
* We encourage you to apply even if you can’t read the full seven months. Substitution volunteers are always needed!
1. It’s easy! Submit your application online. Or click on your county below to print and mail a paper app. Minors under 18 years, please review special instructions on the paper app.
2. SMART will conduct a criminal history check (usually 2 to 3 weeks). This process is in compliance with safety standards put forth by SMART.
3. A local SMART Coordinator will contact you to determine what day and time you’d like to volunteer and when you can attend training. SMART Coordinators are on-site to train, support, coach, and supervise you throughout the year.
