SMART is funded almost entirely by private sources from individuals, businesses and foundations. Without this vital support, we couldn’t do the important work of inspiring a love of reading and learning in Oregon’s children. Over the 2016-2017 school year, 249 individuals and families gave $1,000 or more to bring the SMART program to children in need of reading and mentoring support in their local communities. Thank you for your support! We are sincerely grateful for your generosity.
The SMART Circle is a giving society for annual contributors of $1,000 or more to SMART.
Leaders for Literacy
Leaders for Literacy is SMART’s special giving society that recognizes our most generous individual supporters each year. Leaders for Literacy members have made significant investments in the SMART program in their local communities; we are truly grateful for their partnership as we work to bring SMART to more children across Oregon.
SMART Circle and Leaders for Literacy members receive periodic correspondence from us throughout the year, invitations to special events, and have opportunities to meet and hear from SMART’s executive leadership. Members are also welcome to visit a local SMART site to see the program in action. Thank you for your generous support and for being a member of the SMART family!

Donors interested in supporting SMART beyond their lifetime may consider joining the Legacy Society. Legacy gifts help build a financial bridge to ensure that SMART has the resources it needs to enhance reading skills for future generations of children.
To qualify, donors simply include SMART in their estate plans (such as naming SMART a beneficiary in a will, living trust, life insurance policy or retirement plan). Estate gifts tend to be much larger than traditional gifts and, with advanced planning, can memorialize a loved one by establishing a permanent, named fund that continues to underwrite books and reading support for generations of young readers.
